- How to Create a Works Cited
1. MLA is Modern Language Association, this is a style developed for academic writing. MLA provides guidelines for the creation of a bibliography. Students in Middle Schools are expected to use this when citing sources. It is important because it gives credit to your sources.
2. You can avoid plagiarism by citing all sources, but if its common knowledge, you don’t need to cite it.
3. Works Cited:
a. Always last page.
b. Type “Works Cited” at center top of paper.
c. Each entry like one long sentence.
d. The second and subsequent lines are always indented five spaces.
e. The sources are listed alphabetically.
4. How to Cite a Book Source:
a. Last Name, First Name. Title. Place of Publication: Publisher, Copyright date.
5. How to Cite Encyclopedia:
a. Last Name, First Name. “ Title of Article.” Name of Encyclopedia. Edition Year.
6. How to Cite an On-Line Data Base:
a. “Title of Article.” Name of Encyclopedia/Book. Year. Name of online source. Date <URL (Persistent link)>.
7. How to Cite Internet Sources:
a. Last Name, First Name. Title of Website. Date last updated. Author (if given). Name of organization that sponsors the ste. Date Accessed <URL link>.
8. EasyBib.com is an automatic work citer.
9. At least one hardcover book is required for this project.
